A street-wise kid, Mark Sway, sees the suicide of Jerome Clifford, a prominent Louisiana lawyer, whose current client is Barry 'The Blade' Muldano, a Mafia hit-man. Before Jerome shoots himself, he tells Mark where the body of a Senator is buried. Clifford shoots himself and Mark is found at the scene, and both the FBI and the Mafia quickly realize that Mark probably knows more than he says.
Mark Sway, eroul acestui film, este un puşti de unsprezece ani, martorul unei sinucideri şi cu acest prilej cel care află un secret ucigător. Urmărit de Mafie, F.B.I. şi procuratură, îşi angajează cu un dolar o avocată şi încearcă să-şi salveze viaţa. Mark, un puşti obişnuit altminteri, devine astfel un personaj irezistibil, memorabil, care ştie să se folosească de ceea ce a văzut la televizor în filmele cu Mafia. În România, romanul "The Client / Clientul" este disponibil la Editura RAO.
