A man gets out of prison after 15 years for stabbing his wife to death, and his social worker becomes convinced he was innocent. As she researches his case, and interviews other people who were involved, she begins to fall in love with him, as her friends warn her that he's dangerous.
Ben Jordan (Rutger Hauer), un barbat acuzat pe nedrept ca si-a ucis sotia este condamnat la cincisprezece ani de inchisoare. Dupa executarea pedepsei, el pastreaza o stransa legatura cu Laura Mathews (Natasha Richardson), ofiterul care trebuie sa-l supravegheze. Relatia dintre cei doi devine cu timpul foarte profunda, transformandu-se in iubire, iar lucrurile merg foarte bine o perioada. Pana intr-o zi cand viata Laurei este amenintata, iar Ben intelege ca cineva vrea sa-l vada din nou dupa grat…
