In timpul unei expeditii in Islanda, un profesor de vulcanologie din Boston, Trevor Anderson, ale carui teorii radicale i-au daramant toata reputatia, insotit de nepotul sau Sean gasesc o pestera care ii poarta in adancurile pamantului.
