A derelict, huddled under the steps of a missionary church, feels enlightened by the sermon of a passionate preacher and infatuated by the beauty of the congregation's pianist, in such a way that he tries to improve his life of poverty by becoming a policeman. His first assignment will be to patrol along Easy Street, the turf of a vicious bully and his criminal gang.
Situatia nu e prea roza pentru personajul principal (eternul vagabond al lui Chaplin). Arata rau, hainele-i sunt ponosite, pantofi rupti si doarme chircit pe jos, langa peretele unei misiuni religioase. Pianul care se aude din interior il trezeste si-l face sa intre. Impresionat de atmosfera de acolo inapoiaza cutia cu bani pe care initial avusese de gand sa o fure. Iesind de acolo ajunge langa sectia de politie unde era postat un anunt conform caruia se faceau angajari. Motivul existentei aces…
