A group of scientists in San Francisco struggle to stay alive in the aftermath of a plague that is wiping out humanity, while Caesar tries to maintain dominance over his community of intelligent apes.
O populație aflată în dezvoltare, maimuțele evoluate genetic conduse de Caesar (Andy Serkis), sunt amenințate de un grup de oameni supraviețuitori ai devastatorului virus ce a făcut ravagii în urmă cu zece ani. Reușesc să încheie temporar pace, însă aceasta se dovedește fragilă și de scurtă durată, căci ambele părți se află pe picior de război, un război ce va hotărî care va fi specia dominantă de pe Pământ.
