A Latvian tragicomedy about a young artist who bears witness to the dramatic political upheavals of the WWII era. As brutal regimes come and go, his country, his village, his people, and even his heart are swept up in the inexorable currents of history.

Filmul e o tragicomedie despre un tanar leton, Ansis (Davis Suharevkis), care are niste dorinte simple: sa se insoare cu Zisele (Brigita Cmuntova), fiica frumoasa, un spirit liber, a unui negustor evreu local, si sa-si construiasca o cariera ca artist, in timp ce se intretine ca pictor de semne. Dar dorintele lui sunt distruse in mod repetat de ocupatia totalitara a casei lui, in timpul celui de-al Doilea Razboi Mondial.
