An arrogant, high-powered attorney takes on the case of a poor altar boy found running away from the scene of the grisly murder of the bishop who has taken him in. The case gets a lot more complex when the accused reveals that there may or may not have been a third person in the room.

Un avocat arogant (Richard Gere) preia cazul unui tânăr (Edward Norton) acuzat de uciderea preotului care avea grijă de el. Cazul devine mult mai complex când acuzatul mărturiseşte că mai era cineva în cameră în momentul crimei. Filmul l-a transformat practic pe Edward Norton într-un star, el primind şi o nominalizare la Oscar pentru prestaţia sa.
