Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) este o tânără de origine latină din Miami care rămâne însărcinată după ce este inseminată artificial din neglijența unui spital. Sarcina îi va da fetei viața peste cap, mai ales după ce în joc intră și Rafael, tatăl biologic al copilului, care începe să se îndrăgostească de Jane deși este căsătorit cu Petra.
