Actiunea este plasata intr-un mic oras califonian, in 1942, in timpul Cel De-al Doilea Razboi Mondial. In centrul actiunii se afla Homer Macauley (Alex Neustaedter), cel mai rapid mesager pe bicicleta al locului. Cand fratele sau mai mare (chiar fiul lui Meg Ryan, Jack Quaid), pleaca la razboi, Homer ramane sa aiba grija de mama lor vaduva, de sora mai mare si fratele de numai 4 ani.
