Marc Cros (Jean Rochefort) un sculptor bătrân, trăieşte împreună cu soţia sa Lea ( Claudia Cardinale) în sudul Franţei, departe de război. Se pare că el se apropie de sfârşitul vieţii şi al carierei artistice. Într-o zi Lea îi oferă adăpost unei tinere splendide, iar Marc înţelege repede faptul că fata, care acceptă să pozeze pentru el, îl inspiră şi se angajează într-o ultimă aventură artistică şi senzuală.
