Unlike their heroic counterparts on the force, desk-bound NYPD detectives Gamble and Hoitz garner no headlines as they work day to day. When a seemingly minor case turns out to be a big deal, the two cops get the opportunity to finally prove to their comrades that they have the right stuff.

Detectivii Christopher Danson și P.K. Highsmith (Dwayne Johnson și Samuel L. Jackson) sunt cei mai răi și totodată cei mai simpatici polițiști din cartier. Ei lasă în urmă numai victime. La două birouri în spatele lor stau detectivii Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) și Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg). Îi vedeți în fundalul pozelor cu Danson și Highsmith, visând cu ochii închiși. Ei nu sunt eroi – ci doar “agenții de rezervă.” Dar orice copoi își are momentele lui de glorie, așa încât Gamble și Hoitz dau pe neașteptate de un caz în aparență minor, de care nu vrea să se ocupe niciun detectiv, dar care se transformă ulterior în cea mai grozavă crimă din oraș.
